We are Kansas City’s Newest Taiko troop!
Our players have decades of percussion experience. Beyond taiko, our players have played western percussion, Chinese lion, Thai and middle-eastern. We have over 50 years of combined percussion experience and 11 years taiko experience including workshops taught by both national and international Taiko players. We have been trained by national and international instructors including completing Kodo’s Odaiko and Body Mechanics for Odaiko courses.
We support a diverse membership and believe taiko can be experienced and shared collectively. We strive to play efficiently and effectively transferring the energy of the earth through the player and into the taiko. In our practices we work on body mechanics and fundamentals. We believe in training the body, mind and soul of our players.
We embrace the creativity and imagination of Taiko in the pieces that we choose to incorporate into HNT. We have unique performance pieces shared with us by Kodo and other members of the Taiko community as well as classics, originals and more!
In addition to playing Taiko we have experience making our own Taiko! Our taiko selection includes Nagado, Katsugi, Odaiko and other percussion options that are refurbished, created by us or professionally made by Miyamoto, Asano and Kato Taiko.
Unlike most Taiko troops HNT is built around a more “Pop-Up” concept which gives us the ability to move to different locations to support member involvement and community interaction! While we are always looking for new practice space, we currently support adult classes every Sunday 1 to 2:30pm*, usually in a park in the metro area - check our upcoming classes page!
With our current structure, if we do not have indoor space, we may need to cancel some classes so please see this page or our Facebook for details! If you feel you have a location that would be nice for a practice or would like to hold a workshop or event, please let us know! Currently we are a smaller troop so our performance capabilities are limited however please inquire for more details!
*Weather permitting in most cases, see Upcoming Classes page for up to date information.
